Private View by Lars Kemnitz
The idea was to capture something of the 90’s fashion spirit and wrap it into dreamy, otherworldly and seductive (in some cases even provocative) retro imagery. There is a strong contrast between the often blurry color pictures – taken with a SLR and through glassware – and the black and white flash pictures – taken with a 90’s point-and-shoot camera on expired black and white film. The clash of these two very different aesthetics makes the story visually exciting. Lars Kemnitz

Lars Kemnitz (b 1988) is an art director and photographer based in Hamburg, Germany. He discovered his passion for photography at university. Since then he has been developing his own aesthetic and vision. His fascination for cinema reflects in his photography when he blends cinematic story-telling with fashion, documentary and art influences. His approach is always very subjective and often he develops his projects along the way. He describes himself as a dreamer who believes in chance and magic. And as perfectionist who is drawn to imperfectness. Maybe that is why he sticks to the analog medium – without neglecting the power of digital image processing. In his photography he often brings together the best of both worlds to achieve his signature style.
