97a by Emma Masciotti
Emma Masciotti is an Italian artist based in London, currently studying at the University of Arts of London (LCC)
The photographs are telling the story of Bella and Darek, living in the flat 97a.
Living in London is not an easy and smooth story, the series “97a” is showing how the environment in which we live is affecting us.
The work has been shot in 35 mm film and printed on an 8×10 fiber matt paper.
I chose three images that I thought were the most powerful, one located in the corner shop of the area were they live, the second on the entrance of their house and the last one in their room. To go along with those photographs I wanted an image that was not figurative but still being a photograph. To represent the emotion of each picture I decided to develop an abstract film and then enlarged in the darkroom to see the result.
The series “97a” is composed of six prints: their purpose is to reveal the feeling of chaos, beauty and degrade of a London street.
