LAGOM by François Faguet
“Lagom” is a Swedish term that designates a perfect state, having the right measure, “the right amount”. It is an equilibrium state that Sweden likes to claim as a typical way of life in the country.
I spent two months in Scandinavia, in Malmö. During that period, I turned my attention to the spatial organisation of the town and its outskirts. I wanted to take a look at the urban and suburban landscape and to confront it with the Swedish society’s creed.
Lagom is a series that documents the territory and its complexity, its use and the way it is managed, adapted. For many long hours, I roamed the streets, the peripheral areas, by cycling or walking, which limited the field of study to the lived-in space. It is then possible to establish a sensitive topographic image. I tried to understand how humans respond to unexpected events, dysfunctions, how things interact with each other.
