Enivrez-vous! by Karim Benkirane
The title of this series, “Enivrez-vous!” – “Get Drunk!” in English – is a reference to Charles Baudelaire’s poem of the same name, exhorting us to be “drunk” on the things we like, “on wine, poetry, virtue, whatever”. Once we are aware of time passing, once we see our life slowly consuming itself spreading like wisps of smoke into the void, we become more alive than ever.
Wine, Music and Poetry; Desire…
…and her smile-free face.In order to bear the inevitable, the fatalism of a death we will all face one day, Sami takes refuge in music and poetry, those great discoveries giving some meaning and purpose to our lives.
Transcendence.
Getting drunk on wine, poetry and music, she gets back this impulse of life she has forgotten, her Éros. Her dormant soul awakened, blossoming into something new.
The series was shot on 35mm Cinestill 800T film with my friend Sami as my muse and model.

Karim Benkirane is a film photographer from Fez, Morocco, based in Paris.
I (re)discovered analog photography one year ago, when I bought my Canon AE-1. I’ve never had any specific project until now, just trying to capture what I feel when I see something beautiful.
I shoot film because I love the feeling images hold, all the imperfections and the grain making the pictures raw and real.
