This selection of pictures is from a recent trip I took across the US, travelling by bus from New York to LA, from the beginning of June to the end of August. Matt Young
Aside from them being taken during the same trip, and perhaps a certain feel they share, there’s nothing to really connect them. Or at least nothing deliberate. I rarely shoot with the intention of making any kind of statement or comment about anything. And there’s no narrative to speak of aside from my own life. I just like to find little scenes or moments that – to me at least – have some sort of weird beauty in them, or somehow encapsulate a feeling I get for a particular place or person.
So I guess you could say the project is essentially my view of the US, but not in a social commentary kind of way. It’s more just a record of how I felt while I was there. That’s not to say people can’t infer anything they want from my work and I’m always interested when they do.
